On this amzing 1940s decorative plaster ceiling there was an ugly light/fan combo. …then an ugly domed light fitting.
The ceiling needed something appropriately styled.
This custom fixture is made from frosted acrylic and copper-foil tape.
Making these sorts of practical 3d projects is a fun challenge that involves additionally making tools to aid in cutting and holding compound angles on the laser which is really only capable of cutting 90 degrees.
Fortunately in this case, any slight imperfections in angles could be masked by the copper foil.
At first I thought I’d let the copper gain it’s natural green aged patina, but the natural shine looked so much nicer in this case, that I applied new copper and gave it a spray of clear varnish to stop it oxidising.
